ZX-03 IR Sensor Resource Page

The ZX-03 infrared reflector consists of 2 parts, the emitter and the detector. See figure 1. The emitter emits a beam of infrared light that reflects of the surface within the range of the sensor. This reflected light is captured by the photo-transistor that with the proper circuit connected will convert it into a signal for processing by a microcontroller. Figure 2 shows the circuit diagram of the sensor.

Optomum range for this sensor is about 3mm. Download the data sheet for the TCRT5000 device used in this sensor.
